Profile
Jim started his career as a woodworker for Clark Hunter (Cooperage) straight from George Heriots School in Edinburgh. However, he quickly realised that this job was not the barrel of laughs he had expected and soon left to take up a position with Edinburgh District Council as a Temporary Clerical Assistant in the Improvement Grants Section. It was in this section that Jim’s ability to read maps and plans was spotted and he was transferred to the Council House Sales and Land Survey Section where he progressed rapidly and was put through his HNC in Topographic Studies.
Jim subsequently moved on in 1999 to the private sector, taking up a position as a Senior Land Surveyor before joining CMCR Ltd in April 2005. Jim and his wife Norma reside in a listed building in Ormiston near Edinburgh, a building that they have been restoring for as long as they can remember! His major hobby is motorsport, and he has been a past president of Dunfermline Car Club, Scotland’s premier rally club. Jim has held several other roles within the sport including editor, chief photographer and interviewer for “Pacenotes” which has won several awards in the motoring press.
