Wedding Bells Ring

The “Bride and Groom”, Mr & Mrs Osborn together with CMCR Directors and their wive’s take a moment from the celebrations to pose for a picture recording CMCR’s first wedding.

The first CMCR wedding took place the week before Christmas at Dunkeld in Perthshire. Julia Robertson (3rd from left) our Finance Director and her partner David Osborn were married there and the other Directors and their wives joined them in the evening for the Celeidh. As you can see from the photograph the men entered in to the Scottish spirit and were all wearing kilts for the occasion.

The day went off without a hitch and despite the fact that the weather had been awful for the week leading up to the wedding the day was sunny and bright and most importantly of all dry.

National Bring a child to Work Day

On 26th March 2007 Megan Black, the daughter of our Project Measured Building Surveyor, spent a day in our office as part of the National Bring a Child to Work Day. After completing her questionnaire Megan was shown how to use some of the equipment within the office and then went outside to do some levelling. During this time her Dad was trying to preach the benefits of learning her arithmetic and maths at school.

It was a pleasure having Megan in the office and she advised us that she found the day very interesting but that she didn’t think that she wanted to be a surveyor in later life!

Dad was last seen shaking his head and muttering “kids eh!”

Codebreaker Challenge Winner: Paul Cowin

Paul Cowin is an associate with the Birmingham office of Mott MacDonald within the geotechnical department. Paul states “working within a multidisciplined office offers a broad variety of experience, however much of my time is taken with the maintenance or construction of rail and road infrastructure. These can prove challenging, especially with the assessment of earthworks and structural stability problems where surveying to monitor relative movement can prove an effective tool in assessing ground movements”

Sudoku Challenge Winner: Duncan Aitchison

Duncan works in the Project Design Unit of Highland Council TEC Services as a Principal Technician taking projects from inception to Tender stage (formerly Roads and Transport). He is involved in Capital Works projects – roads, bridges, flood alleviation and more recently land-fill site restoration, new recycling centres and extensions to land-fill sites. He has worked for the Council in Highland Region since 1980 and states “I have been fortunate to do my fair share of surveying all over the Highlands, which has it downside when it is raining and the midges are biting!”

Colin achieves a Runaway Success

Our Project Building Surveyor Colin Clark has recently completed a sponsored 10k run in aid of Cancer Research UK. The run took place in the magnificent grounds of Hopetoun House, near Edinburgh on the morning of Sunday 9th October 2005. Approximately 1000 competitors participated, all running for various cancer charities.

Colin raised £200 in aid of his chosen charity and was running in memory of a close relative. The weather on the day was cool and bright and his recorded time was a very creditable 1 hour 7 minutes. The money will be collected over the next few weeks and Colin would like to record his thanks to everyone for their support and generosity—well done Colin.
