CMCR Ltd was established in 2005 to respond to the growing demand for large-scale topographic and measured building surveys. The directors boast more than 60 years experience in the fields of Surveying, CAD-GIS and Photogrammetry giving the organisation an edge in determining the most appropriate method of capturing, processing and presenting your digital information.
By utilising the latest, reflectorless and robotic total stations, GPS and being able to call on the support of sub contractors during busy periods, we are able to provide high quality land and measured building surveys to time and budget. Our staff are able to react quickly to meet your requirements and they have full control over the project from site visits to the final digital model.
The Director’s have identified a unique opportunity for four like minded individuals to form a Company which, through utilisation of their respective skills and areas of expertise blends together to provide a highly motivated management team capable of achieving the targets they set and satisfying their own personal ambitions.

The team has particular strength in Finance with both the Managing Director (Graham Callander) and the Finance Director (Julia Osborn) having spent their entire careers in Finance Services and Accountancy. This, combined with the skills and track records of both David Motion (Operations Director) and David Corfield (Sales and Business Development Director) particularly within the target market place, affords the Directors considerable confidence of meeting and exceeding the forthcoming challenges.

Graham was educated at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh and from there he accepted a position as a young trainee accountant in a firm of Chartered Accountants in Stirling. Quickly realising that the profession was not for him, he was given an opportunity by CCG (Commercial Catering Group) to develop his career, taking up a number of positions from Management Accountant to Group Internal Auditor and on to Commercial Manager.
After 12 years with CCG, Graham moved to Gardner Merchant where he spent a further 6 years honing his skills, the latter part as Financial Controller of the newly formed Facilities Management arm of what is now known as Sodexho UK. Further moves followed gaining a wide range of experience from a variety of roles one of which was as part of a team that successfully completed a multi million pound MBO (Management Buy Out) and latterly as General Manager with a company in the SME sector.
Married with 3 children, Graham’s “sanity time” takes place at his local golf club where he has a handicap of 6. He is a past captain and has been the Treasurer for the last 14 years. When time permits he also enjoys going to support his local football team—Falkirk FC.
His biggest regret is not “biting the bullet” and starting up in business earlier in his career.

In all realms of life it takes courage to stretch your limits, express your power, and fulfil your potential. A brand for company is like a reputation for a person. You earn reputation by trying to do hard things well.
Graham Callander, Managing Director

David’s first job was as a photogrammetrist for a large survey organisation in Coleraine. From there, he gained significant experience holding positions as far and wide as Durban in South Africa and Maidenhead in Berkshire before settling in Scotland to accept a position as Production Supervisor with a survey company in Livingston.
Further promotion quickly ensued with a move to a larger organisation based in Dunfermline where David held senior positions as Head of Production, Air Survey Manager and Estimating & Resources Manager. David currently resides in Crossford with his wife Moira.
David and Moira have a son Allan, who is now a fully qualified Architect working with Watson Burnett Architects of Dunfermline/Edinburgh. His main hobby is supporting Heart of Midlothian football club where the family have season tickets and they attend most of the away games.
David’s ambition has always been to hold a position as a Director of a Company and not only has he fulfilled this ambition but has the added dimension of being a part owner of the business.

People might say that at my age it is a bit late in life to take this step. However, the opportunity arose with like minded individuals with the necessary mix of skills and experience which provided the impetus for me to set up in business at this time. I am genuinely excited by the prospects and opportunities that CMCR affords me.
David Corfield, Sales & Business Development Director

David first became interested in Surveying whilst studying Geography at Aberdeen University, continuing his studies at Glasgow University where he undertook his Post Graduate Diploma in Land Surveying.
On completing his studies David started work with a small Survey Company in Fife as a Graduate Trainee. During his 22 years there he progressed through various roles and departments from Senior Surveyor, Systems Manager, CAD Manager, Business Development Manager to Estimating Manager. He is also a member of RICS and the ICES. These various roles have provided him with the wide range of skills and experience that he is able to put to good use at CMCR.
David and his wife Irene have been married for over 25 years, live in Dunfermline and have two daughters, Rachel is a student at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh and Kirsten has been accepted to study Forensic Anthropology at the University of Dundee from September of 2008.
A keen footballer David still plays five-a-side on a weekly basis as well as attending the local gym and walking their pet Springer Spaniel at ungodly hours in the morning in an attempt to keep fit.
David enjoys action packed holidays with his family, British Columbia and Alberta being favourite destinations for hiking and white water rafting.

I have always considered teamwork and proper lines of communication to be essential to the prosperity of an organisation and am pleased to have this opportunity to build a new business where staff are respected, trusted, and listened to.
David Motion, Operations Director

Our Finance Director Julia Osborn lives with her partner David, a dog and two cats just 5 miles north of Perth on the main A9. Apart from a short spell living in Dundee she has made her home in this area.
Julia was educated in Perth and left school at 16 to join a local accountancy practice as a trainee accountant. She qualified in 1977 and whilst the profession had provided a good training she felt that her talents would be best used in Industry. She was Company Accountant, Company Secretary and Finance Director in companies manufacturing products such as greeting cards, crystal and spinning yarn for the sock trade before joining a unique Business Management practice (Fraser & Partners) in 1987. During the 7 years with Fraser & Partners she worked with companies in just about any sector you care to mention doing work on Management Buy Outs and Buy Ins, re-structuring, re-financing and as a director of a small Venture Capital Fund acted as their representative on invested company boards as well as doing investment appraisals for the fund. Julia has worked all her career in the SME market place and has a great breadth of experience not only in Finance but in general business management. She decided to become Self Employed in 1994 and has continued to work with a wide variety of clients.
Julia’s other interests have for many years included politics and she was a candidate for the first Scottish Elections. She was also a candidate for the local council and Westminster as well as being Secretary of her local party for several years. She comments that it is quite frustrating not to be elected when you know that you can do a good job but you just don’t support the right party....
Julia & her partner David tied the knot in December 2006 which was CMCR's first wedding.

I am a firm believer that knowledge is power and if you can provide all the right information for a management team then it makes the efficient and effective managing of the business that much easier. However the information is just the starting point, the communication of the information in an understandable format to the team of managers to enable them to use it is just as important.
Julia Osborn, Finance Director
